Syften, developed by Michal Mazurek, is a keyword monitoring system for social platforms.
This tool is a great example of something really simple that does one thing really well. Given a set of keywords that relate to one’s business or interest, Syften will alert you when those keywords are mentioned on a social platform.
This allows you to go and directly interact with people that might be within your realm of possible customers, engage with existing customers, or simply grow your footprint in the interwebs - PS: I’ve done something similar, but much simpler, with Substack Tools - Reddit Search.
The other reason why this is such a great tool is the fact that the value proposition is pretty clear. You take a look at it, and you can without any doubt know that if you pay for this service, it will be net positive for your business. I love that!
Syften offers 3 price plans:
HOBBYIST: at €19.95/month, you get to track 3 keywords;
BOOTSTRAPPER: €39.95/month, and it lets you set 20 keywords to follow;
STARTUP: €99.95/month for up to 100 keywords.
Again, simple and straightforward. The customer knows exactly what they’re getting, and that’s awesome. The less friction, the better outcome.
In terms of revenue, Syften has reached €6K in monthly recurring revenue. Pretty solid numbers if you ask me. I also found a comment written on HackerNews, where Michal says “I'm able to support myself from my online business now, but it took three years of learning and struggle to get here. This was not time wasted, as I grew a lot”.
Interestingly, he also had the following note “(…) after reading all of Paul Grahams essays and going through startup school I saw no spike in my MRR. On the other hand, reading a handful of James Clear articles had a profound effect. It's important to keep in mind that if what you read doesn't change your behaviour then it's just entertainment”
Words to live by.
Why engaging directly with your audience is important
The successful growth of a business lays in its ability to connect with its target audience. When you start a new business you’ll have an idea of the individuals your product or service will appeal to, but identifying your target audience is only half the battle. You also need to know how to engage with that audience in order to strengthen and maintain that relationship, as well as to attract new customers.
